The Beginning of a Long Story

Adopting means committing for 10 to 15 years. Your animal is a sensitive being who needs time to understand their new life. These first days are foundational for your relationship.

A Gentle Arrival

Golden rules for the first 48 hours

Their Own Space

Prepare a dedicated quiet space before arrival (bed, bowls, toys). It is their safety refuge.

Observation

Let them explore at their own pace. Do not overstimulate them, do not force contact. They will come when ready.

No Bath Immediately

Wait until they trust you before washing or handling them excessively.

Setting the Framework

A happy animal is one who knows the rules

Family Consistency

Define the rules (sofa allowed or not?) and stick to them. Everyone at home must apply the same instructions.

Mealtime

Respect their tranquility when eating. It is a moment when they should not be disturbed to avoid stress or defensive reactions.

Education

Do not hesitate to get support from a dog club or trainer from the start to get off on the right foot.

"La patience est la clé de la confiance."

A Financial Commitment

Love is not enough. Having a pet implies irreducible costs that you must be able to afford over time.

Quality FoodVaccines, Antiparasitics, VetHealth contingencies (safety fund)

Respect Their Nature

"An animal is not a small human, nor a plush toy. They have their own codes, species needs, and personality. Loving them means respecting them for who they are, not for who you would like them to be."
